Use of Bactrim in cases of Genitourinary Tract Infection resistant to ordinary treatment


Abstract
In spite of many available antibiotics and chemotherapeutics, genitourinary tract infection still remaines as troublesome subject for urologists.
New bactericidal agent, Bactrim(trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole) was administered in 60 cases of genitourinary tract infection which were resistant to many other antibiotics and following results were obtained.
1) Among 22 cases of gonococcal urethritis, 20 cases were cured rapidly, 2 cases were improved.
2) Among 20 cases of non-gonococcal urethritis, 15 cases were cured and 5 cases were improved.
3) Among 9 cases of chronic prostatitis, one case was cured and mild improvement were noted in remaining 8 cases.
4) 8 cases of pyelonephritis showed rapid improvement in both clinically and bacteriologically.
